If he can’t take the time to keep his commitment to her, then he deserves to come home to a big, fat $500

If he can’t take the time to keep his commitment to her, then he deserves to come home to a big, fat $500.00 receipt!

Tony finishes his golf match and has a slight twinge of conscience, so he decides to call home and see if Tina wants to go out to dinner that night.

When he calls, Tina is not there.

“The hell with it”, he thinks.  “She’ll call me when she gets back.”

Tony has a late lunch and a few drinks at the golf club and loses track of time.

He and his buddies start talking to a few women at the club and one of them is flirting pretty heavily.

Tony is flattered.  He thinks about the fact that Tina no longer tells him he is attractive and silently revels in the attention from this beautiful young woman.

In the meantime, Tina comes home to an empty house.

She had expected Tony to be waiting for her when she got home and she is angry.

“I’m not about to cook his stupid dinner so he can come rolling in whenever he likes and sit down to a hot meal”, she thinks.

She grabs a package of crackers and a soda and goes into the bedroom to watch a movie.

When Tony comes home, it is late.  He smells of cigarette smoke and alcohol and Tina is even more annoyed.

She doesn’t even say hello to him.

He goes into the bathroom and takes a shower and when he comes out, he notices the bag with the comforter on the chair.

He looks at the receipt and loses his temper, yelling about their finances and her irresponsibility.

Tina leaves the house and calls Nancy to meet her for dinner.

She is angry and she stays out late just to make Tony worry.  When she comes home, Tony is sleeping.

Another day has come and gone and their marriage is in worse shape than ever.

What is going on here?  Do you have some ideas about what these two people can do to improve their marriage?

Do you think their marriage is better or worse than yours?

Before we close, we’ll look in on Tina and Tony again and see what happened to them.

If you decided your marriage is in trouble, and you want to save it, your goal should be great than simply avoiding divorce.

Your goal should be to improve your marriage and to make it as healthy as possible.  You and your spouse will be happier if you don’t accept a mediocre outcome.
